Actor Ryan Gosling is speaking out after being nominated for an Oscar — and his costar Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig being snubbed.

Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor on Tuesday for his portrayal of "Ken" in one of the year's biggest hits, "Barbie." With more than $1.4 billion in ticket sales, Gerwig's feminist comedy was nominated for eight awards in total.

But Gerwig was surprisingly left out of the best director field, and Robbie was passed up for Best Actress.

According to People magazine, Gosling is disappointed with the two women not being recognized individually for their roles in the record-breaking film.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Gosling said, ""There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius."

Along with Gosling, America Ferrera received a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for "Barbie."

In an interview with Variety, Ferrera also expressed her disappointment with the omission of Gerwig and Robbie from their respective individual categories.

“Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it,” Ferrera explains. “Creating this world, and taking something that didn’t have inherent value to most people and making it a global phenomenon. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list.”
