CHICAGO — Grammy, Emmy and Oscar winner Common was in Chicago on Monday to promote his new self-help book.
The actor and activist held a special event at the Harold Washington Library to discuss the book titled, "And Then We Rise: A Guide to Loving and Taking Care of Self."
Before the event, the Chicago-native sat down with WGN Entertainment Reporter Dean Richards and touched on many things, including a special connection he has with another Chicagoan — Jennifer Hudson.
The two have been rumored to be romantically linked for some time now.
Last week on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Common all but confirmed that there is something going on between them after the talk show host asked if he was dating anyone.
"Yes, and I set my standard kind of high because she has an EGOT, she won an Oscar on her first movie, she has her own talk show," Common playfully revealed.
During an interview with WGN on Monday, Richards addressed the Hudson topic, telling Common that she is "clearly" an important person to him — in which the rapper replied, "yes."
"I value her. And that joy of being on the Jennifer Hudson Show is just what I was feeling. I wasn't trying to be anything but me. She and I are who we are together," Common said.
He continued, saying, "We enjoyed it and we chose to express whatever our connection is so that we can also keep what we have in a sacred space, in a private space and respect and honor it and not put it up for public display — because that is not the origin of what it is."
Common went on to say that Hudson "is an amazing human being."
The Chicago-native told Richards that he and Hudson also plan to do a song together on his upcoming album.
